DROID VS IPHONE

February 19th, 2010

Is there any worthy competitor to the ubiquitous iphone!!!There have been many smartphones offering similar functionality at a significantly reduced cost. But Iphone somehow maintains sole domination in the smartphone market. Now things can get a lot more interesting with Motorola launching their latest smatphone called “Droid”.The official launch of the phone was on the 6th of November. It has all the features of the Iphone and also adds some extra featues and maintains the same cost. This is why it is being considered as a worthy match-up against Apple’s flagship product. The Droid comes with a default memory size of 16 GB which can be expanded to 32 GB. The camera is 5mpx as compared to Iphone’s 3Mpx.But it lacks the nifty video editing features of the Iphone. The battery life is also increased to 6.4 hours in the Droid. One major feature in the Iphone that is found lacking in the Droid is the native support for aac(Apple audio codec) which has become very popular these days. But it more than makes up for this shortcoming by having support for almost every other video format and multitasking feature. With this phone, the Iphone would have found its match. But the fact that the number of applications for Iphone is around 10 times will always turn public opinion in favour of the Iphone,

How popular is online shopping?

February 11th, 2010

Online shopping is one of the most awesome features of the net-revolution. This in every sense has made the world a global village. Why not? When you can sit in your living room and order stuff around the world as if it is in your adjacent lane. Having said that, how many of us really do online shopping?  The time delay involved in shipping the ordered item to the required destination is always a turn off when it comes to online shopping. But that might not be the case if the user orders something from a nearby franchise.  Also the potential risks involved while typing out your credit card number in some site owing to phishing attacks is also a major deal breaker. Added to all this is the overhead incurred due to the shipping charges and also the customs/duty. But for people who do not mind shelling out a few additional bucks for some gadgets/stuff that is not available in their domestic markets, online shopping is a great boon. For others it is just overkill!

There are clear cut indications of the long awaited “ Light at the end of the tunnel”.  There is new found energy for companies which is eflectd in renewed hiring of personnel. People who have been forced to do lesser jobs are now getting better opportuities that promise an increased pay. It can be said with certainty that the worst that the recession had to offer had been endured and now things are looking up. It might be a bit too early to jump the gun and sy that the job situation is back to normal. But going by the curent positive signs, it might well be so in a year and a half or less.

How Twitter and Facebook could change the face of internet marketing

January 31st, 2010

Social networking sites have made a great foray into the world of marketing. Not only do they open up new arenas for advertisers to effectively make use of the wide user pool in these sites, but also they provide a platform to integrate their ads with meaningful means of commercial transactions also. Twitter and facebook remain in the forefront of online marketing. This is primarily because of their huge user base and also the willingness on the part of the sites to accommodate ads. One of the foremost strategies adopted by companies is to create profiles/groups for themselves and encourage users to join them thereby increasing their popularity and productivity among the masses. They can also make optimum usage of the custom made widgets and the third party applications in these sites to take full advantage. What is encouraging to hear is that since these ads are monitored by the sites themselves, there is very less chance for bogus ads.

Education in the US

January 21st, 2010

It has become quite a fashion statement for students to study abroad; especially in the US. As soon as a student enters college, he/she starts envisaging pursuing higher studies abroad. US universities are ranked among the top education systems of the world. They focus more on research, providing world class technology equipment for research. Most faculty members here are experienced scientists who can guide students with their expertise. So it is only natural that students aspire to go to the US to study.
Talking from the Indian perspective, the culture of the United States attracts us. The blend of so many international students will definitely give us a wide exposure to get to know more people. Besides, the independence and the freedom to take decisions are definitely worth experiencing.
Looking at the academic perspective, most education systems follow a fixed pattern of study and a well-designed syllabus for a course. The students have to just skim through a particular text that covers all these topics. Whereas there, the study is completely concept based. You’ll be able to answer questions only if your base is strong. That is definitely a better way of attaining true knowledge.
Innovation and new ideas are encouraged in the US. Being an economically well-developed country, they can offer more chances of aiding research and provide technological help to implement ideas into working systems. Though US is well known for the best technical college and Universities around the world, US also offers wide scope for other branches of education such as bio-medical, business management, fashion technolog and so on.

“Shopping” search feature comparison between Google and bing

January 15th, 2010

Whenever google implements a new feature and if it is a hit, Microsoft tries to ape it and produce similar results and the recent feature wars between google and Bing bear testimony to this statement. Let’s take a peek into the shopping feature of the two search engines. Bing has a shopping link in the left side of its main search page and when you search an entry, it not only produces results that correspond to the lowest rates, but also sites that have opted for Microsoft’s cash back policy. It also displays two kinds of reviews pertaining to every product-namely User reviews and Expert reviews. Google can take a page or two from Microsoft’s book and incorporate such features too. Besides Google can save people from a great deal of trouble by making its shopping feature more accessible and also improve utility features it has. Currently it can be accessed as http://www.google.com/products. When the next time I decide to buy something will I Google it or Bing it? I will definitely Bing it !!
